Chelmsford Opera (then Chelmsford Opera) was formed in 1971 by Cynthia Scott,a local singing teacher,with the aim of encouraging local interest in opera.

Our first president was the late Elizabeth Harwood who often attended performances to give encouragement and advice.

Our current president is the internationally acclaimed operatic conductor Alexander Ingram. Alex continues the tradition of attending our performances if his schedule permits. We are very grateful for his advice and encouragement.
