In addition to his work with English Touring Opera,Hounslow Symphony Orchestra and Harpenden Choral Society John conducted Chelmsford Opera in its recent production of Pagliacci and Not in Front of the Waiter.
John holds a PhD from Cambridge on the historical,social and political context of Handel's secular oratorios. This reflects his wider interest in the relationship between works of art and the societies which produced them. In addition to his professional engagements John has appeared on Radio 4's The Real History of Opera and has written programme articles for New York City Opera,and contributed several entires to the Cambridge Handel Encyclopedia (CUP,2009).
